Top 5 Current NHL Players.

5.Dany Heatley (San Jose Sharks)
Dany Heatley is a routine sniper. You're never gonna see Heatley with under 30 goals in a season, probably even with under 35. Heatley has 201 goals since the lockout! 21 already this season and is on pace for another 40+ goal season. If you give him the puck, chances are he's gonna score.

4.
Jarome Iginla (Calgary Flames)
Jarome Iginla is at number 4. I was on the fence to put Iginla or Malkin here, but I put Iginla simply because he is a leader, Malkin is not. The Captain of the Calgary Flames, Iginla will step up, score, pass, play defense, hit, fight, and give 100% when he's on the ice. He knows his role, he plays it well.
3.
Joe Thornton (San Jose Sharks)
Joe Thornton, not the captain, but certainly a leader. Joe Thornton is debatebly the best play-maker in the NHL. He has averaged over 60 assists per season for the past 4 seasons and is on pace for no different. Thornton has that 'big, tough, cocky Canadian' look and he uses his size to his advantage, a hard hitter, Thornton shows no mercy on the ice for his opponents.

2.
Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Sidney Crosby is favourited by many fans, also hated by many fans. I'll be one to admitt I don't like Crosby, I don't like his style, his face, and his whiny attitude. However, if I were to judge him on the ice, he is deffinetly a skilled player. The captain of the Penguins, Crosby has won the Hart, the Art Ross, even the Stanley Cup, and he is barely in his 20's. A tremendous play-maker, but also a consistent goal scorer, Crosby is an elite player and is already being suggested as Captain of the Olympic squad for team Canada.

1.
Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals)
Alexander Ovechkin is the best player in the NHL right now simply because, he is the only player that can break Gretzky's 92 goal season record. Scoring 65 2 seasons ago, Ovechkin is a born and natural goal scorer. It would be shocking to see Ovechkin under 50 goals in a season. The amount of speed he builds up when he's got the puck on his stick is scary. He is a big guy but he's got the speed of lightning. He uses his size to demolish his opponents, every chance he gets. All focused on his in-human scoring ability, Ovechkin creates chances for his team-mates and can pass the puck around better then alot of other players in the NHL. This guy is amazing, Alexander Ovechkin is the best player in the NHL.

GAME OF THE NIGHT (Bruins @ Blackhawks)

http://lmfunder.stu.cofc.edu/bruins.jpghttp://nbc5streetteam.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/chicago-blackhawks.jpg

The Boston Bruins were in Chicago, Illinois to play the Blackhawks and out of the 6 games in the NHL last night, this one got the game of the night honours, on the very 1st 'game of the night' blog.
There's nothing better then to see 2 elite teams of the NHL battling it out!
Boston is: 16-10-7 ( 39 pts )
Chicago is: 22-8-3 ( 47 pts )

Tim Thomas & Antti Niemi were the starting netminders for this game. The Bruins kicked things off with the first goal of the game at just 9:22 into the game. David Krejci put home his 6th on the year on a power play goal. Blake Wheeler, Derek Morris got the assists. A pretty exciting 1st period, the shots were 13-11 in favour of the Bruins. Beggining the 2nd period, Chicago came out firing! Just 1:55 into the 2nd frame, an awful, awful turnover by Andrew Ference right infront of the net allowed Kris Versteed to put home his 10th goal of the season. But that's not it, just over 5 minutes later, Brent Seabrook puts on a clinic skating by the whole Boston line-up before getting denied by the pad of Tim Thomas, but he gave away a huge rebound and Patrick Sharp found the back of the net for his 10th of the campaign. The 2nd period had 4 goals combined. The next one was from the Bruins Daniel Paille got just his 3rd of the season to tie it up 2-2. However, Blackhawks answered back, just 3 minutes later, with just 27 seconds left in the period, Jonathan Toews got his 10th of the season on a backhand shot and it was now 3-2, B-Hawks. This lead up to a very exciting 3rd period. Johnny Boychuck of the Bruins would tie the game just 6 minutes into the 3rd period for his 2nd of the year. It's now 3-3. But, like always, Chicago had a reply. Just a minute and 40 seconds after that, Brian Campell's shot from the point got re-directed by Andrew Ladd, and it is now 4-3 Chicago on Ladd's 5th of the season. With Chicago in the lead the fans had smiles on their faces, no. With just under 3 minutes left to go in the 3rd period, David Krejci scores!!! He got the 1st goal of the game, he'll get the last. Overtime solved nothing, so we head to a shootout! Bruins were up 1st..

Patrice Bergeron, stopped.
Jonathan Toews, scores!
Blake Wheeler, misses.
Patrick Kane a chance to win it, scores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Blackhawks win a thrilling game 5-4 in the shootout.

WILD EQUIPMENT CAUGHT ON FIRE

The Minnesota Wild equipment van gotcaught on fire outside the scotiablank place in Ottawa. The fire began at around 2:30 Pm. Firefighters rushed to the scene and were there for about 40 minutes. Reports say there were no injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, they say that most of the equipment has been destroyed.

How the hell are they gonna play!?

Goaltender Niklas Backstrom's equipment has been destroyed, every single piece of it! The Wild are talking with the NHL management to figure out their options. The only choice they have is to purchase all brand new equipment! However, some of the equipment was special, Eric Belanger wore a special foot brace that he needs in order to play, It'll be interesting to see what his situation is come tomorrow's game.

SPEZZA TO MISS 8 WEEKS.

http://www.bionika.ca/FIHG/images/spezza.jpg Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza is due to miss up to 8 weeks of hockey!!!! Spezza suffered a severe knee injury Monday night when the Senators lost to the Maple Leafs 3-2. Spezza underwent an MRI on Tuesday. Spezza will not have to go through surgery, source: Cory Clouston (Senators headcoach.)
''It means we'll have to be more of a team than ever,'' Clouston said Tuesday. "We're going to have to have guys step up and play with structure."
Maple Leafs forward Lee Stempniak appeared to roll over Spezza's knee off a faceoff late in the game. The sens forward immideately left for the dressing room.
This could be a huge loss or a huge chance for somebody else to step up in Ottawa.
